YEREVAN.- Armenia is working on a new bill on food safety, head of food safety inspection Abraham Bakhchagulyan told reporters on Thursday.

The bill, which is being drafted within the framework of Twinning project, envisages that animal producers will have to pass a general audit to assess the general hygienic conditions.

“Such requirements will allow assessment of the production. If inspections reveal production not complying with the standards and hygiene, all production, not a batch, will be considered as posing risk,” Bakhchagulyan said.

In case producer fails the laboratory tests, his production will be closed. The laboratory tests will be conducted according to international HACCP standards.

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control points (HACCP) is an international system, a systematic preventive approach to food safety and pharmaceutical safety.
