YEREVAN. - The country which committed the Armenian Genocide should have the courage to recognize the crime and repent sincerely, said Armenian Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan.

During the meeting with Swedish parliamentarians Abrahamyan stressed that Turkey can not become a part of civilized world and a democratic state until it accepts mistakes of the past. He expressed gratitude to the Swedish MPs for courage and resoluteness they displayed by adopting a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

The Armenian official noted that international community has not given adequate assessment of the Genocide, although the fact was recognized and condemned by over 20 countries.

Last March the Parliament of Sweden adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in the beginning of 20th century.
