Neither the Georgian government nor the Georgian president is able to settle the issue of recognition of Armenian Genocide as long as Mikheil Saakashvili is in power, Shalva Khachapuridze, Chairman of the Party for Victory, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the reason is that the present Georgian authorities are not independent, but are representing other nations’ interests. “However, when patriots respecting the neighboring nations’ history come to power in Georgia, the issue will be settled,” the politician said. As regards Georgian Armenians’ initiative, Khachapuridze said the Georgian Parliament did not develop it.

A number of Armenian organizations in Georgia have twice submitted requests to the Georgian president and Parliament for discussions of recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Armenian organizations in Georgia called on Georgian MPs to issues a statement commemorating the Armenian Genocide victims at one of the sittings before April 24.
