“Armenian can progress without oil and gas. Azerbaijan is rich in oil and gas, but these resources are not bottomless. When Azeri leader Ilham Aliyev is by himself he thinks it is very difficult to be on hostile terms with Armenia,” political scientist Matvey Ganapolsky told the reporters.

According to him, the Russia-Azerbaijan relations, Russia’s priorities are developing regional strategy, as well as its relations with the other countries in the region is Russia’s domestic affair.

“After all, it is not Armenians’ business what interests Russia pursues. Have you ever heard Russia voice its strategy over Caucasus?” Ganapolsky noted. According to him, Armenia follows Russia’s “instruction” if the point is maintaining peace in the region.

“Russia’s strategic aspiration is its influence in the region. This is important as Russia has interests in Caucasus. However, its aspirations do not hinder Armenia to pursue an independent policy. I have not heard Medvedev make a statement like, “We do not allow Armenia to reconcile with Azerbaijan, solve the Karabakh conflict or normalize relations with turkey. Russia has its own interests, but today it is busy struggling against Luzhkov.
