At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, the Armenia government discussed the matter of allocating money to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense in order to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

Presenting the respective draft decision, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan said: "The adoption of this draft of the government's decision is due to the fact of providing humanitarian aid to about 1.5 million people who were displaced from Gaza and are in the most difficult socioeconomic conditions at the Rafah [border] checkpoint as a result of the recent military operations in the Gaza Strip. Within the framework of humanitarian aid, it is proposed to provide food and medicine to the displaced persons—addressing their primary needs.

For this purpose, about 19 million drams [approx. US$48,200] will be allocated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs from the reserve fund of the government, food, within the framework of which there are canned food and dry food, medicines, including medical solutions and antibiotics. The humanitarian aid is 29.94 tons in total. Since the transfer of aid is carried out by the Ministry of Defense, it is proposed that appropriate funds be allocated to the Ministry of Defense."

In turn, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan noted: "As you know, I announced the delivery of this humanitarian cargo during my official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. There were questions related to logistics. In order to deliver this aid to the residents of Gaza, we need the assistance of the Egyptian government because we cannot deliver the cargo directly."

The deputy minister of internal affairs, for her part, noted that all the necessary agreements have been reached with the Egyptian government.
