A senior US presidential administration official has said there is no evidence of "foul play" in the helicopter crash that killed Iran's president and other officials.

"There is no foreign interference," he said, according to NBC News.

He said the Biden administration is closely monitoring the situation and reports that "Iranian officials are trying to blame the United States or Israel for the death of the Iranian president."

"They already have," the official said, referring to a statement by Iran's former foreign minister that U.S. sanctions were to blame for the lack of helicopter spare parts in the country.

As to whether the death of Iran's president and foreign minister will have any impact on U.S.-Iranian relations, he said, "We don't expect any significant fundamental changes here."
