YEREVAN. – Armenia-Iran railway project fits into China's plans for the construction of infrastructures from Asia to Europe, Armenian Transport Minister Gagik Beglaryan said in the parliament on Wednesday.

He recalled that the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan  reached a number of agreements with the Chinese government during his visit to China in March.

“The Chinese government has a wonderful approach, which they call the Silk Road and allocated 40 billion dollars,” Beglaryan said.

According to the study also conducted by the Chinese side, the cost of construction of the Iran - Armenia railway may amount to $3.2 billion.

The Iranian side is ready to join the project immediately after the start of construction in Armenia, the Minister recalled.

“Since the program is large, the work continues. But we have to reach a final agreement soon,” he added.
