Armenians of California gathered at the Sony Picture Studios Thursday afternoon for a demonstration urging the president, who is on a fundraising trip to Los Angeles, to keep his campaign promise and recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Participants were carrying posters and chanting “Obama, Keep Your Promise”.

Frontman of System of A Down Serj Tankian was also among the demonstrators.

“President Obama will be visiting the Los Angeles area as part of his re-election campaign just three days prior to April 24th. He must hear our community’s profound disappointment with his failure to honor his campaign promise that as president, he would recognize the Armenian Genocide and deliver justice to the Armenian people. Being the largest Armenian community in the Diaspora, we must turn out en masse to send our message loud and clear not only to him, but to all of the national press that will be assembled there,” reads the statement issued by Armenian Genocide Community Task Force.

Last year he did not fulfill his campaign pledge not mentioning the word “genocide” in his statement marking April 24, Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.
