The Armenian Youth Association of Ukraine made a request to Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich for legal declaration of April 24 Day in commemoration of Armenian Genocide victims.

“We very much hope the Ukrainian president will hear our voice,” David Mkrtchyan, President of the Association, told Analitika.at.ua.

Although many countries recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide, Ukraine has not so far expressed its attitude to that crime.

On April 23, 2010, well-known Ukrainian political scientists, scholars, public and political figures, as well as representatives of a number of national minorities, called on the Ukrainian President and Parliament to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.

Some local government bodies made similar requests as well.
