Iran's Vice President Mohammad Mokhber is likely to serve as Iran's president. He must be confirmed in office by the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say in all state affairs.

Mokhber, 68, was elected as the first vice president since the 2021 election that brought Raisi to power, the BBC reported. Mokhber is known for his closeness to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In 2010, the European Union placed Mokhber on a sanctions list for alleged involvement in "nuclear or ballistic missile-related activities." He was removed from the list two years later.

Mokhber previously headed Setad, an investment fund linked to Iran's supreme leader. In 2013, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the fund and 37 companies under its control.
