In 2023, a total of 40,666 crimes were recorded in Armenia. Compared to 2022, crimes increased by 3,054 or 8.1 percent. But a decrease in minor crimes was recorded last year. We learn about this from the 2023 report on the activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia.

The annual report states that 80.9 percent of these 40,666 crime are minor crimes (20,024 cases or 49.3 percent), and medium (12,848 cases or 31.6 percent) gravity crimes.

Particularly serious crimes account for 4.1 percent of total crimes (2.3 percent in 2022), and serious crimes—15.0 percent (13.5 percent in 2022).

During 2023, a total  of 40,666 crimes were recorded in Armenia; that is, 1,357 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (1,263 in 2022). A total of 20,231 of these crimes were committed in capital city Yerevan (21,604 in 2022). Compared to 2022, crimes increased by 3,054 or 8.1 percent.

Last year, medium-gravity, serious, and particularly serious crimes increased in Armenia compared to 2022.

The type crimes committed in the country from 2013 to 2023 shows that the average annual percentage indicating the proportion of serious and especially serious crimes in general crimes was 17.4 percent. Meanwhile, serious and particularly serious crimes accounted for 19.1 percent of total crimes in 2023.

During the last ten years, a higher rate than the indicated rate was recorded in 2014—19.9 percent—and in 2015—20 percent, also stated in the annual report of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia.
